Algebra solver with steps

Algebra is a small set of legal moves applied in the right order. The solver names each move (add to both sides, factor, flip the inequality when dividing by a negative) so you can see the rule, not just the arithmetic. Quadratics and systems can be solved two ways on request.

How to get the most out of it

    1. Enter the equation as written. Use ^ for powers (x^2) or the x² key.
    2. For systems, put each equation on its own line or separate them with a comma.
    3. Watch for the moves that change direction: dividing an inequality by a negative, taking square roots (±), clearing denominators.
    4. Plug the answer back into the original equation. The solver does this in its check line.

A note for parents. The solver is most useful after your child has tried the problem. Compare their work with the steps and find the first line where they differ; that line is the thing to practise.

    FAQ

    Which algebra topics are covered?

Linear equations, quadratics (factoring, formula, completing the square), systems of two or three equations, inequalities, absolute value, exponents and logarithms, rational expressions, and fractions.

Does it show both solutions of a quadratic?

Yes, and it tells you when a quadratic has one repeated root or no real roots.

    Can it factor?

Yes: GCF, trinomials, difference of squares, and grouping, with the check by expanding.
