Math solver that shows every step.
Solvecam (solvecam.com) is a free math solver that runs in your browser, nothing to install. Take a photo, upload a screenshot or type the problem and get every step with the reason for it, the answer boxed and checked.
3 free problems a day, no account needed. Not affiliated with the SolveCam mobile app.

How it works
Three taps on your phone
Point the camera
Textbook, worksheet, or your own handwriting. Crop is optional; the solver finds the problem.
Watch the steps appear
Steps show up one at a time so you can try to predict the next move. Tap "Why this step?" when you are stuck.
Check the boxed answer
The final answer sits apart from the work, with a check line that plugs it back in. Copy it or save the whole board as an image.
What it is
A free math solver with steps, not just answers
Solvecam is a math problem solver you use in the browser. Type the problem, paste it, or point your phone camera at the page; the solver reads it and writes out the solution step by step. It covers the maths most students meet: fractions and percentages, linear and quadratic equations, systems, inequalities, word problems, derivatives, integrals, limits, and plane and solid geometry.
Unlike a calculator, a math solver with steps has to explain itself. Every line here is one move (subtract 7 from both sides, apply the chain rule) with a short "why" you can open when a step is not obvious. The final answer sits in its own box with a check line that plugs it back into the problem, so you can solve math alongside it rather than copy from it.
Practice mode turns the board into a worksheet: switch it on and, before each step appears, you write your own next line. The solver compares it with the step and tells you whether it matches or where it differs, then shows the step. It is off by default, free, and never counts against your daily solves.
The free math solver gives you 3 full solutions a day with no account. Plus removes the limit, adds a second method for the same problem, and lets you save the board as an image.
Studying in the UK? The maths solver page uses GCSE-style questions, British terms and £. For quick arithmetic there is an instant math calculator, and Image to Word turns a photographed worksheet into an editable document.

Why students keep this tab open
Built around understanding, not just the answer
Each line is written as you would on paper, not buried in a chat bubble. Expand the "why" only when you need it.
Factoring or the quadratic formula. Substitution or elimination. See the same problem solved a second way so the method your teacher wants is there.
If the photo is unreadable or the problem is outside its range, it says so. It will not invent an answer to look clever.

FAQ
Questions parents and students ask
Is it really free to see the full step-by-step solution?
Yes. The free tier gives you 3 problems a day (per device), photo or typed, and each one shows every step with the reason for it, the boxed answer and a check line: the same steps Plus users see. It is not unlimited: after 3 problems the next free ones arrive the following day. Sample problems never count.
Do I need to sign up or create an account?
No. The 3 free problems a day need no account, no email and no card. An email address is only used if you buy Plus, so you can sign in to it on other devices.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Solvecam runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer. On a phone the camera button opens your camera directly; nothing is downloaded. Solvecam is web-only and has no app-store app: the SolveCam mobile app on Google Play and the App Store is a different product and is not affiliated with solvecam.com.
Can I take a photo of handwritten homework?
Yes. Photograph a printed or reasonably neat handwritten problem, or upload a screenshot, and the solver reads it and works through it step by step. It shows the problem as it read it above the solution, so you can fix a misread symbol and solve again.
Does it cover calculus?
Yes: derivatives (the rule, such as product or chain rule, is named at each step), integrals including u-substitution and definite integrals, and limits. It also covers arithmetic and fractions, linear and quadratic equations, systems, inequalities, exponents and logs, word problems, and plane and solid geometry. If a problem is outside what it can do, it says so instead of guessing.
How is it different from Photomath and Mathway?
Solvecam works entirely in the browser, with nothing to install and no account for the free 3 problems a day, and every step carries a one-line "why". Photomath's own site asks you to scan problems with its app; its free Basic tier includes step-by-step explanations, and Photomath Plus ($9.99 a month or $69.99 a year) adds custom visual aids and extra how and why tips (photomath.com, checked 15 October 2026). For Mathway's current free and paid features, see mathway.com: we could not load it on that date. Our comparison page lists what each site says about free steps, sign-up and installs, with sources.
What does Plus cost?
Plus is $39.99 a year (about $0.77 a week), $6.99 a month, or $2.99 for a one-off 7-day pass that does not renew. It removes the daily limit and adds "another method" and image export. Plus is tied to the email address used to sign in; this page does not promise a device count.
Can the answer be wrong?
Yes. It is an AI, and AI can make mistakes, especially with blurry photos or missing information. Each solution ends with a check line. Compare it with your own work before you rely on it.
What is Practice mode?
A switch on the solution board. With it on, each step waits for you: type your own next line (the symbol keys help), press Check, and you get a one-line verdict (matches, close, or where it differs) before the step is revealed. Free, no account, and it never uses a free solve.
Is it cheating?
A tool that shows how a problem is solved is a study aid, like a worked example in a textbook. Use it to understand the method, then do the next problem yourself. Follow your school's rules on graded work.
